HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - By Kristine Tofte
Ameron Hawaii, the locally owned and operated supplier of concrete and aggregate, is changing its name to HC&D, a tribute to their original name Honolulu Construction & Draying, Co.
The company was founded in 1908 by a quarry owner, three construction men, and a retired sea captain. Back then the base of the business was the drying of construction materials by horse-drawn wagons.
Over the years, the company grew and was eventually bought by the American Pipe and Construction company of Monterey Park, California (Ameron, Inc.). The company went by the name Ameron HC&D for several decades, before finally changing their name to Ameron Hawaii.
In July 2014, Pahaku Paa, LLC, purchased Ameron Hawaii in an effort to return ownership and management decisions back to Hawaii. Wade Wakayama, president and CEO of Ameron Hawaii, said, "We are excited to officially introduce the HC&D name and update logo design to our more than 250 employees, countless retirees and customers throughout the state."
The primary batching facility on Oahu is located on Sand Island Access Road as are the administrative offices. The company also has facilities on Maui for aggregate, sand and ready-mix concrete production. More than 80 trucks from both islands will be rolling out with the new look and name.
Today, HC&D is the largest producer of concrete on Oahu. The company will continue to serve the people of Hawaii and build upon its rock solid foundation.
